Our most “liked” story ever might have been last Tuesday’s report on the mysterious art project being planned for Divis. That project will officially come to life tomorrow, with a slew of muralists converging on the 600 block for a day-long takeover.
But that won’t be the only art action in the area tomorrow.
At 1pm, there will be a Haight Street Photowalk, starting at Haight and Laguna. Join fellow photographers on a journey from the Lower to the Upper, walking all the way up to Haight and Ashbury, then turning around and walking back down Page to Divisadero. Along the way, you can snap pics of street art, Victorians, and “the many, many nods to counter-culture” on Haight Street. Then, cap it all off at the aforementioned mural project on Divis, where you’ll (hopefully) chat with some of the participating artists.
Meanwhile, Vinyl (359 Divis) is hosting a mural project of its own. From 6pm to midnight, the wine bar will feature NO ART HERE, a night of live art including a handful of talented local artists. There’s Ben Eine (of giant Hayes Valley mural fame), Apex (who recently painted a piece at Haight and Masonic), Jet Martinez, Slvstr, and more. They’ll be giving Vinyl’s exterior a makeover, while the cafe inside hosts Pizzahacker, music, and free sparkling wine from 6pm to 7pm.
And finally, there’s that Open Canvas mural project. In case you missed it, artists will be painting, sculpting, yarning and projecting along Divis from Hayes to Grove all day Saturday, and possibly into Sunday. It’s all sponsored by Absolut Vodka, a fact which definitely rankled some of our readers last week.
But, what would art be without some controversy?
