David Kurtz, who has been chef and partner at Maven since it opened at Haight and Steiner in December of 2011, has left the restaurant.
As was reported by Inside Scoop earlier today, Kurtz resigned and has been replaced by chef de cuisine Isaac Miller.
We spoke with owner Jay Bordeleau by phone this afternoon. He wouldn’t go into detail about why Kurtz left, except to say that his resignation only went into effect yesterday, and he is moving on to new projects in San Francisco. However, Bordeleau told us that Miller has had full control of the kitchen since January 1st, and has overseen daily operations for the past three months.
A few of Miller’s creations have already made it onto the menu, including roast suckling pig, a new gnocchi dish, and a grapefruit granitas dessert. Some of Maven’s most popular dishes, like the Chinatown duck sliders and the Maven burger, will remain.
Overall, Miller plans to take the menu in a more “robust” direction, meaning larger portions at the same general price point. The menu will also rotate more rapidly.
