The huge white plastic tarp that has cloaked 493 Haight Street for the past five months was finally removed yesterday, and replaced with…
…a sheer black get-up that barely covers its Walgreens signs. Scandalous.
But if you think that’s revealing, you should have seen the intersection around noon yesterday. That’s when Haighteration reader Devon C. snapped this photo of the building between outfit changes.
A source tells us the black wrap coincides with a new phase of the building’s renovation, in which the surviving windows will be lowered roughly a foot. That jibes with some designs we’ve seen for the new facade, which seem to preserve the general look of the old exterior.
Of course, we’ll keep you updated with any and all scintillating developments.
