Several readers heard multiple rounds of gunfire near Webster and Rose Streets last night just after midnight, followed by lots of cop cars, a chase, and someone being taken away on a stretcher — but the SFPD has not yet released any information about the incident.

Lots of tweets mentioned the gunfire:

“shots fired (literally) haight& webster”
- @wingwingssf, 12:29am

“Shots fired in lower haight. Four around 1215a, followed by what sounded like a barrage from 2 guns at about 1230a”
- @jonwhitaker, 12:55am

“@jonwhitaker yeah, 4 shots, then a few mins later there was a burst coming from 2 different places. At least 1 person is shot.”
- @DanJackson415, 12:55am

Haighteration reader Rachele T. writes:

“I heard 3 gunshots out my window last night and peaked [sic] out to catch a glimpse of the bugger- being chased by SFPD. Hope they got em’. I also saw they pulled out a stretcher, so I’m pretty sure someone was shot. Sad, sad, sad.

And Jesse C. tells us:

“There were two sets of five gunshots last night at Webster and rose. Then about 5-6 police cars came to patrol the area and set up a crime scene. Two black guys were arrested, and another came out on a guerney into an ambulance. Looks like it was a murder. The whole block was shut down and cops swarmed the streets.”

We contacted SFPD to gather more information, but, somewhat curiously, they don’t yet have any information about the incident in their system — even nine hours later.

As of 9:30am, SFPD’s Northern Station tells us that the officer handling the incident is still writing the report, so further details are not yet available. The report should be ready in “about two hours,” we’re told.

We’ll update with more details when we have them.

Update 10:05am: Well that was quick!

SFPD just provided us with more details of the incident, telling us that police responded to the scene when their automatic gunfire detection technology was triggered.

When they arrived, they detained four people and recovered multiple weapons. However, as none of the weapons were found on the persons, and with no witnesses reporting having seen specific individuals firing the weapons, no arrests were made.

No one was injured by the gunfire, SFPD says. However, an ambulance did respond to the scene, as one person received cuts from “climbing fences.”

So… that’s that!

If there are any more developments, we’ll of course update accordingly.
