Today’s the big day — it’s Haighteration and Blockboard’s Happy Hour at Mad Dog in the Fog! And to give you something to chat about, we’ve got some big news.

From 5-7pm tonight, we’ll be rockin’ Mad Dog with beers and neighborly fun. Your RSVP is required, so go register for one of the last spots over on our Eventbrite page. Then, just come and show us Blockboard on your iPhone, and you’ll get free beer till the cows come home (or until we run out).

Registered, but don’t have an iPhone? Don’t worry — just answer a few Lower Haight trivia questions to earn your free beer. Or, if you prefer, skip the app and the trivia and pay for your drinks yourself — nothing wrong with that. Or don’t drink at all, for that matter!

The idea here is to have a little fun and meet some neighbors. With that goal in mind, the first rule of happy hour is that you can’t pour your own beer. Introduce yourself to someone new while filling a stranger’s glass – it won’t kill you. Heck, you might even make a lifelong friend or fall in love or something. (If you do, please let us know.)

Again, the fun runs from 5-7pm, but we’re expecting a full house, so you’ll probably want to get there on the early side.

So, that’s the happy hour. But that’s not our news.

Blockboard is also holding a contest. The first 5 San Francisco neighborhoods to sign up 500 Blockboard users will receive $5,000 each. That money can be used for pretty much whatever we want, as long as it’s an improvement project that benefits everyone. Pretty sure we could find a use for it, right Lower Haight?

So, if you’re an iPhone owner, take a quick sec and download the app right here:

Blockboard - San Francisco - BlockChalk, Inc.

It’s fun and free, and it just might earn us 5,000 smackers.

But that’s not our news, either.

The news is… coming later today. Sorry for the tease, but this one deserves a separate post! Check Haighteration again around noon. It’ll give you something to talk about at happy hour, that’s for sure…
