Can you believe it’s been a full year since the men’s World Cup tournament dominated the Lower Haight? Wow. It seems like only yesterday that… uh… that one team beat that other, lesser team. (Frankly all we can remember are the vuvuzuelas.)
Well, now it’s the ladies’ turn! Tomorrow is the final battle between the U.S. and Japan, coming at you live from Germany (WWII much?), and you better believe the local bars will be getting in on the action.
Here’s where to watch.
Danny Coyle’s (668 Haight): The game kicks off at 11am, and that’s when Danny Coyle’s opens. Expect $2.50 Tecates, $3 Sam Adams, and a rowdy soccer- football-lovin’ crowd.
Mad Dog in the Fog (530 Haight): Mad Dog opens at 9am, and plans to sling as-yet-undetermined drink specials during the game. No word on whether the beer table is booked, but if ever there were a good occasion to try it, this would be it.
Nickies (466 Haight): Nickies opens at 10am on weekends and plans to show the game. They’ll have their usual cocktail and champagne specials for your imbibing pleasure.
During the men’s tournament last year, games were also shown at Toronado, Molotov’s, Cafe du Soleil, Cafe International, and even the Haight Fillmore Whole Foods market, so don’t be surprised if you hear chants of U-S-A! U-S-A! emanating from the farthest-flung reaches of the neighborhood.
Know of anywhere else in the ‘hood showing the game? Let us know.
