Red Vic Movie House Closing on Monday

What was merely a depressing possibility in May is poised to become a depressing reality: the Upper Haight’s Red Vic Movie House will be closing for good on Monday.

The Red Vic has been an Upper Haight staple since 1980, when it opened at its original location at Haight and Belvedere. But attendance has been in decline in recent years, and despite a flurry of fundraising events in the past few weeks, the Vic has finally given up its battle for financial viability.

The theater will be hosting its final, sold-out screening, 1971′s Harold and Maude, at 9:30pm on Monday night. Why Monday, you ask? It’s the Red Vic’s birthday — the theater opened on July 25th, 1980.

Thanks for 31 years, Red Vic!
