Following last week’s fatal crash involving a UCSF van at Oak and Octavia, the university has announced plans to install seat belts on all of its shuttles by the end of August. The July 14th accident resulted in the death of UCSF doctor Kevin Mack, who was ejected from the shuttle during the crash.
A couple of readers have pointed us to online galleries of their photos from Wednesday night’s Waller Street fire. Carlos L. posted a few fantastic black and whites on Flickr, while Patrick P. snapped more than 250 color photos of the scene.
On a lighter note, if you like Vietnamese food, you’re in luck: SF Weekly brings word that a Vietnamese pop-up called Rice Paper Scissors is now offering free bicycle delivery to the Lower Haight ($10 minimum order) on Thursday nights. Expect the rotating menu to include staples like banh mi and sticky rice. Mmmm.
Over in the Upper Haight, Eater confirms that the Alembic plans to expand into the space being vacated by the Red Vic Movie House, which closes on Monday. Specifics are unclear though — Alembic owner Dave McLean tells Eater, “the process is really just getting started.”
Hayes Valley Farm is one of 14 local businesses and non-profits included in The 7 Squared Project, which is raising money to shoot mini-documentaries about said organizations. HVF and the other participants are offering lots of prizes in return for your donation to the project — click the link for full details.
And finally, a new event kicks off at Underground SF (424 Haight) tonight. Dubbed The Greasetrap, it promises lots of local DJs, “cheap drinks and hard beats,” plus wing specials courtesy of next-door neighbor Wing Wings. Doors at 10pm, ladies free before 11:30pm.
That’s it for this week. As always, let us know if we missed anything. tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
