First, the good news: the folks behind Bi-Rite Market recently received a liquor license for their upcoming Divisadero location.
Now the bad news: they won’t be using it for an extra four months.
That’s because Bi-Rite, which first announced plans to open a market at 550 Divisadero a full year ago, is pushing back the location’s opening from September of this year to January of 2012.
A rep for Bi-Rite tells Haighteration that the company’s owners, Sam Mogannam and Calvin Tsay, came to the realization that the build-out of the location would take “longer than anticipated.” The rep also confirms that the Divisadero location will house both a Market and Creamery in the same space. (At Bi-Rite’s original location on 18th Street between Dolores and Guerrero, the market and ice cream shop are two separate storefronts on opposite sides of the street.)
So, no salted caramel ice cream or Cuban sandwiches for your late-summer picnic in Alamo Square park. But just imagine how tasty your dead-of-winter party is going to be!
