Did you know the Lower Haight has more record stores than Indian restaurants? Hard to believe, we know — but true!

Tomorrow, several of our local music shops will be taking part in Record Store Day 2011, an annual celebration of all things vinyl at independent music stores the world over.

Among the local events:

  • Black Pancake Records (593 Haight) will be discounting all records by 20% for the day, plus serving up chocolate pancakes (!) from 11am to 4pm.
  • Groove Merchant Records (687 Haight) will be selling a special 12″ for the event, plus they’ll be making about 100 rare LPs available as well.
  • Recordpressing.com (475 Haight) will be throwing a barbecue with free hot dogs, sausages and beer. All you have to do is show a receipt from any local record store dated within the last week.
  • If you want to trek to the Upper Haight, Amoeba Music (1855 Haight) will be hosting a live performance by Los Shimmy Shakers at 4pm, along with “three go-go gorgeous dancers: Bootsy LaRue, Mistress Marla Spanks, and Pickles Kintaro!”

Not sure if Rooky Ricardo’s, Jack’s Record Cellar, or any other local shops will be participating, but if we get any more info we’ll update accordingly!
