On Saturday morning, a car cut off (and collided with) a cyclist near the intersection of Duboce and Belcher. The bike was totaled, the car sped away, and now the cyclist needs your help.

Haighteration reader Josh K. alerts us to a flyer posted near the scene of the accident that reads:

HIT & RAN

On Saturday, April 23rd at 10AM, a champaign [sic] sedan struck a cyclist heading east on Duboce at Belcher. The car then sped away.

THE DRIVER:

  • Swerved in front of the cyclist in an unsignaled left turn from Duboce onto Belcher;
  • Caused the cyclyst [sic] to strike the car behind the rear right wheel and collapse in the street;
  • DID NOT STOP (Granted, the cyclist was furious)

THE CYCLIST:

  • Quickly collected his damaged bike
  • Ran to catch up to the car and the samaritan cyclist that took up pursuit, unsuccessfully
  • Continued on foot to his destination to collect himself and determine next steps

ANY WITNESSES:

  • Are encouraged to contact the cyclist to volunteer a testimony. The police have advised that witnesses “make charges stick” – otherwise there’s not much of a case. A gracious bystander caught the car’s license number, but that alone has little value.
  • Can contact the cyclist by phone, 415-606-0980, or by email, k.bob.johnson [at] gmail {{dot}} com. (anti-spambot formatting added by Haighteration)

Thank you. Felix is totaled, but this is bigger than a broken heart.

Obviously this is just one side of the story, so if you witnessed this whole kerfuffle, be a good neighbor and speak up, won’t you?
