After successfully defeating a neighbor’s opposition at a Board of Appeals hearing last month, it appears that Chase is moving ever-closer to opening a branch on the 400 block of Divisadero. They’ve even started advertising job openings for the location.
Of course, not everyone is thrilled about this.
If you consider yourself amongst the non-thrilled, you might want to head to the corner of Divisadero and Oak tonight. That’s where, from 6pm to 9pm, a group of concerned locals will be hosting the No Chase Block Party, strategically timed to coincide with tonight’s Divisadero Art Walk.
The anti-Chase event is described on its Facebook page thusly:
“The Divisadero Art Walk is coming up this Thursday! What a great time to celebrate all that Divisadero is and could be–without a megabank!
Come meet your neighbors, enjoy refreshments, sign the petition, learn about credit unions, and imagine a block of businesses that actually represent the unique and communal spirit of this spectacular street through a giant, real-life interactive art intervention.”
Will events like this have any effect on Chase’s plans? Who knows. But if you feel strongly one way or the other, now would be a good time to speak up. It’s your neighborhood, after all…
