Meet Chase Bank, Your New Divisadero Neighbor — Maybe

Last month, we told you about a potential new tenant looking to set up shop on the 400 block of Divisadero, filling both an empty corner space at 401 Divis as well as the adjacent storefronts currently occupied by Five Star Truffles and the Country Cheese Co.

Today we can finally reveal that this mystery tenant is, as some of you have correctly speculated, Chase Bank.

Now, before you go canceling your checking account or digging out your pitchfork, depending on your reaction, some notes.

Firstly, the owner of the building, The John Brennan Company, indicates to Haighteration that the deal is still not done. So, whether or not Chase will ultimately occupy the space is still uncertain.

But tonight, the picture might just become a little clearer.

A Chase spokesperson confirms to us that they’ll be sending a rep to tonight’s monthly NOPNA (North of Panhandle Neighborhood Association, duh) meeting, presumably to meet the neighbors and discuss their intentions for the Divisadero branch.

The meeting is scheduled to run from 7-9pm tonight at Oasis Cafe (901 Divisadero). NOPNA president Jarie Bolander tells us that Chase is expected to give a “brief, informal presentation,” and that the meeting is open to the public.

We’ll keep you posted as this project moves forward, or doesn’t. In the meantime, if you have strong opinions on this, or want to learn more, consider attending tonight’s neighborhood meeting. Then come back here and rejoice/vent.
