Meet Hooper.
Hooper’s a lovable hound mix, a proud San Francisco resident, and a good friend of Haighteration’s. He also probably wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for the folks at Rocket Dog Rescue.
This weekend, celebrate the Hoopers in your life, and throw a little love to Rocket Dog, with “Unleashed” — a week of pet-related discounts and events around town organized by the folks at The Bold Italic, along with Rocket Dog and the awesome pet blog Pawesome.
Lots of pet stores around town are taking part, including the Lower Haight’s very own Animal House on Fillmore. They’re offering $5 off your total when you spend $20 or more on non-food, non-litter items. (Incidentally, see if you can spot The Animal House’s Megan Johnson in this recent Bold Italic photo spread.)
Other discounts around SF include 50% off pet products from Alite Designs, 25% off apparel and accessories at Mission pet shop Nooworks, and 15% off at SF Raw Feeders. The deals last through Sunday, and you can get the full details here.
But the highlight of the week is a pet fair in the Mission Saturday night, dubbed “Paws and Play.” The fair kicks off at 6pm at the Women’s Building (3545 18th Street, between Guerrero and Valencia), and promises to feature plenty of pet supply vendors, as well as beer and wine, free sandwiches from Ike’s Place, and free cupcakes and cookies, not to mention a raffle of pet-related prizes.
And from 8:30pm to 10:30pm, there’ll be bingo, beer, and chili pie. The bingo game will feature even more fantastic prizes, and your $40 donation buys you 10 bingo games — plus, it benefits Rocket Dog Rescue, which benefits the Hoopers of the world, which benefits everyone.
The only caveat is that, aside from service animals, Saturday night’s event is a human-only affair. But we’re sure your pooch will forgive you when you come home with boatloads of swag. And the fact that you might help save a few dogs’ lives in the process — well, that definitely should earn you at least a tail wag or two.
