Here’s a strange one!
Apparently La Boulange, operator of various bakeries around San Francisco including a namesake in Hayes Valley as well as our very own Cafe du Soleil, filed for a liquor license at 292 Divisadero this week.
What’s so strange about that? Well, 292 Divisadero just happens to be the current home of popular/successful/please-don’t-move Mexican joint The Little Chihuahua.
The application for permission to sell beer and wine, which is dated Wednesday October 13th, is actually a request to transfer ownership of this license, which clearly belongs to The Little Chihuahua.
Now, don’t start to panic just yet, fellow burrito lovers. We checked with T.L.C.’s owner/chef Andrew Johnstone, who told Haighteration, “It must be a typo. We are not going anywhere!”
So did La Boulange (or the state’s booze licensing department) just get the address wrong? Or is this some sort of half-baked hostile takeover? We’ve reached out to La Boulange for an answer, so we’ll definitely have more on this story soon. Stay tuned…
Update 10/16/2010: La Boulange’s Director of Operations got back to us, saying: “No, that’s not us. Seems odd, but must be a mistake I guess.”
So…. until further notice, chalk this one up to government error!
