Something’s Fishy on Haight Street

According to WIkipedia, koi fish “are among the longest-living vertebrates, with some animals living over 200 years.”

Sadly, that wasn’t the case for these unlucky three on Haight Street, whose short lives came to an abrupt end this week.

The folks at D-Structure tweeted about the kois’ demise on Tuesday afternoon:

Attn artist who had stenciled koi fish in front of our store! The city came by and covered em up. Come back and do em again!

We went out to verify, and indeed, the scene was grim:

Fortunately, other koi in the Lower Haight managed to escape the painter’s wrath. We’re reluctant to divulge their locations, out of fear for their safety. Because clearly there’s a public-art-hating monster on the loose!
