Feeling blue because all your friends are leaving town for the holiday weekend? Well, here are a few events to help turn that frown upside-down.

Tonight at 8pm, head to D-Structure for the opening night of Magnetic Fields, an exhibit of works and installations by artist Sean Chapman. As usual with D-Structure First Friday events, you can expect great tunes and cocktails, and the first 100 folks in the door get a free glass of wine, which, frankly, is wonderful.

Meanwhile, Edo Salon presents the opening of Sink & Swell, photography-based works by Ehren Reed. There’ll be food, drinks, and music by DJ Babbidge. Festivities run from 8:30 – 11pm.

When you’ve had your fill of art, stop by Nickies for the official afterparty. DJs Dion Decibels and The Whooligan will be spinning from around 10pm till closing time. It’s free, but sorry kids, it’s 21+. You know, cuz it’s in a bar.

On Saturday, between 2 and 4pm, check out the official grand opening of the new Zerofriends pop-up at 248 Fillmore. You may even get to meet artist Alex Pardee. We told you all about this a couple days ago, so don’t act surprised.

Finally, since it’s a long weekend, stay out later than usual on Sunday night at Underground SF, where they’re hosting Bubblicious, “a night of 70s Bubblegum, Glam, Disco, and Power Pop Featuring DJs: Captain Groovy AKA DJ Sheazerblade and Bazooka Jules AKA DJ Jules and your host Veronica Sugar AKA Mollie Tuggle.” Good golly! And did we mention it’s free?

For these and other exciting Lower Haight events, be sure to check out our new Haighteration calendar. And if you know of something else going on in the neighborhood, let us know! calendar [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.

Enjoy the long weekend, folks!
