This is a rare hybrid of two regular Friday posts that we do — a roundup of Lower Haight news stories that didn’t quite make the front page, and some events to make your weekend extra-special.
- Event: Just a reminder, it’s the last Friday of the month, which means it’s Critical Mass day. Who knows what route it will take or how it will affect your evening commute! Isn’t it just ADORABLE?
- Leftover: Last week, Three Twins started making their own waffle cones in-house. Looks like this should be a perfect ice cream weekend, too.
- Event: Tonight at the Hayes Valley Farm, catch the latest in their series of Farm Film Nights. This evening’s feature is, appropriately, “Vanishing of the Bees,” a 2009 documentary about the mysterious recent phenomenon known as “colony collapse disorder” in which bee colonies around the globe suddenly started disappearing. In a potentially polarizing casting decision, the flick is narrated by Ellen Page, the star of “Juno” and many a Cisco commercial. Gates open at 6pm, followed by live music from The Secrets, plus local treats and raffle prizes. Bring a blanket and a $5 donation, if you’re so inclined. The film starts at sundown.
- Leftover: Twitterer @haightlife snagged a photo of the first pizza officially served at Ragazza’s opening night on Wednesday.
- Event: On Saturday night, catch the first-ever Duboce Park movie night, which we mentioned on Tuesday. Yes, it goes head-to-head with The Big Lebowski in Dolores Park, and we’re not about to get into a Dolores Park-bashing rant here, but, let’s just say we could.
- Leftover: If you’re into fashion, you’ll be happy to know that Revolver is now carrying the massive quarterly Purple Magazine. The current edition (Fall 2010) features Chloe Sevigny on the cover and weighs in at almost 500 pages. That’s a lot of fashion.
- Event: On Sunday, don’t miss the weekly Divisadero Farmers’ Market — this one featuring the apple pie baking contest we told you about yesterday. The market runs from 10am to 2pm, and pie entries will be accepted up until 11:45am.
- Leftover: And finally, after switching up its business model earlier this summer, Robotspeak is now looking for ideas on ways to use its space:
Basically we have a killer space in the Lower Haight with a new insanely awesome QSC PA system, a work-shop area in the back of the space, all of which is being criminally under-used. So we are looking to collaborate to share our space in some creative capacity to help us offset our monthly costs. This could be as a teaching space, art studio and/or gallery, some kind of retail operation, we are open to your ideas.
