We have a couple of quick mini-updates on two crimes that happened recently in the neighborhood.

First, an update on Phil DiMartino, who was found stabbed to death in his Hermann St. apartment on August 2nd. An SFPD spokesman told us yesterday that police still do not have a suspect at this time. However, they are reviewing footage from “several surveillance cameras,” presumably from the U.S. Mint across the street, from the weekend the murder was believed to have taken place. Police would not comment on whether those cameras may have captured footage of DiMartino or his attacker.

Police are also still seeking the public’s assistance in providing tips in the case. Again, they believe the suspect may be a hispanic male, and may have cut his hand during the attack. They also won’t say anything about DiMartino’s possible relation to the suspect, though in a bulletin a few days after DiMartino was found, they specifically mentioned that “Mr. DiMartino was known to frequent bars in the Castro District.”

If you have any information that might be relevant to the case, call the SFPD’s anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444.

Next, SF Appeal adds some new details to the story of the recent assault in Duboce Park which we told you about on Tuesday. In the incident, 44-year-old Michael Harkin was tackled by a stranger while walking his dog, an attack which left the victim with a fractured hip socket and caused his dog to run away.

Turns out one of the Appeal’s writers found the dog in Noe Valley, and contributes her side of the story. Worth a read.

Again, if you have information about either of these cases, you can call the SFPD’s anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444. We’ll keep you posted with any updates.
