The Chronicle’s Paolo Lucchesi reports that Burger Joint, on the corner of Haight and Pierce, is closing shop after a decade at the location.
According to Lucchesi, owner Nidal Nazzal was facing a rent increase as his 10-year lease on the space expired, and opted instead to shut the restaurant down.
It’s not immediately clear whether the closure is imminent or has already happened, as Burger Joint doesn’t regularly open until 11am. As of 10:30am today, however, there was no activity to be seen inside.
While there are still a few options for decent burgers in the neighborhood, and at least four other Burger Joints around the Bay Area, restaurant closures like this (and this) make us none too happy. Here’s hoping a new joint, burger or otherwise, fills the space soon.
