You may not realize this, but “The Wiggle” is a relatively new expression. Local resident and bike enthusiast Joel Pomerantz first popularized the term back in 1994, in a newsletter article for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.

Tonight, from 6-8pm, you can take a free guided walk along the Wiggle with Pomerantz himself, via his Thinkwalks tours.

Learn about the history of the route from the Panhandle to Market Street, which ancient peoples used as a footpath to avoid hills in their journeys down the peninsula. (Heck, some of us still do!)

The Walk the Wiggle tour begins at Oasis Cafe (Divisadero and McAllister) the Duboce Bike Mural, behind the Safeway at Duboce and Church, and given the max of about 20 people per tour, reservations are definitely encouraged. Call 415-505-8255, or email thinkwalks@earthlink.net.

Update 7/1/2010: Please note the new starting location at the Duboce/Church Safeway mural. Thanks Joel!
