Man, there sure have been a lot of grim headlines in the news this week, huh? That bombing attempt in Times Square, the crazy flooding in Nashville — and of course, the huge oil spill.

Well tonight, stop lamenting turtles in the Gulf of Mexico, and start lathering tortillas in the guac of Mexico. (See what we did there?) Because today is Cinco de Mayo, amigos, and that means for one hot noche we get to fiesta like there’s no maƱana. Or at least have a happy hour margarita or two.

To get you started, here’s haighteration’s list of nearby options for getting your south-of-the-border on.

292 Divisadero (at Page)
Happy hour from 3pm – 6pm, including $2 pints and $3 tacos. And Pacifico on draft. What’s not to like about that? Nada, that’s what.

306 Broderick (between Oak and Fell)
You can bet this always-crowded joint will be extra busy tonight, especially with the recent arrival of their new and improved liquor license. Put your name down on the list and prepare to wait — but don’t worry, the carnitas will be worth it.

488 Haight (between Webster and Fillmore)
OK sure, this place looks a little dire from the outside, but inside is no-frills home-cooked quality. Come for the burritos, stay for the plantains. Beer and wine only here though, so if it’s margaritas you seek, keep on seekin’.

235 Church (at Market)
It’s OK to venture outside of the Lower Haight once in a while, but only if you have a good reason. Chilango is a good reason. A little pricey, but so, so delicioso. (We’re really pushing our remedial Spanish knowledge to the limit today!)

533 Haight
Don’t go here. It’s closed.

135 Church (at Duboce)
Full disclosure: we’ve never eaten here. Hard to believe, right? Well, it gets a 7.3 on burritophile, our most trusted burrito ratings site, so we’re gonna go ahead and add it to the list anyway.

180 Church (at 14th)
Guess what? We HAVE eaten here. Not to be confused with Casa Mexicana II, Casa Mexicana I is numero uno. In the sense that it probably came first. Foodwise, it just gets the job done. That’s pretty much all there is to say about it.

Of course, if a drink is all you’re after, you can always check our food & drink page. Plenty of options there, muchachos.

So? Got a favorite Mexican joint on the list? Know of any fun Cinco de Mayo events going on tonight? Have an opinion on Arizona’s new immigration law? Let’s talk about Mex. In the comments, that is.
